Loan Payment Protection FAQ's
The Loan Payment Protection is optional. It is not a condition for obtain a loan and does not affect the credit decision process. However, it is a smart and affordable way to protect against unplanned life events.
It’s an insurance designed to help reduce the burden of your loan payment if you’re unable to work due to involuntary unemployment, disability/injury, or in the event of a critical illness, loss of a limb or eyesight, or even death.
The Involuntary Unemployment and Disability coverages are available only to the Primary Borrower. The Primary Borrower is the individual whose name appears first on the loan/borrower agreement. Life and Dismember coverage have age restrictions.
It is a smart and affordable way to protect against unplanned life events. Coverage will help you (and in some cases your family) manage the financial obligation of your loan payment, should the unexpected happen.
The insurance premium is equal to 5.5% of the cost of the loan plus applicable taxes. It is calculated upfront and built into the customer’s loan balance. It is factored into a fixed monthly re-payment amount due each payment period.
The insurance coverage is effective when your financing/loan is approved. However please keep in mind that there are certain waiting periods, age limitation, terms, conditions, and exclusion which are detailed in the Certificate of Insurance.
The Certificate of Insurance will be provided to the borrower along with the loan application documents. Please read it as it provides the full details of the coverage including all terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions. If you have misplaced your copy, please call the insurer and another copy will be provided.

Claim forms may be obtained by calling a Customer Service Representative at 1-844-930-6022 or by downloading the claim form at https://transglobalinsurance.ca/claims/. Claim must be filed within 90 days from the date of such loss.
You must be involuntarily unemployed for more than 30 consecutive days and the unemployment must occur 30 days from the Effective Date. Employment must have been full time meaning that the insured must work a minimum of 25 hours per week.
You may cancel at any time by contacting Trans Global Insurance directly. In addition, if you cancel within 30 days of enrollment, any premiums that you have paid will be fully refunded.
The insurance coverage ends:
• When the loan is paid off
• You cancel the insurance coverage
• You default on the loan payment (i.e. you are more than 30 days delinquent in making any required Loan Payment towards Your Outstanding Balance)
• 31 days from the date we send you notice by first class mail to your last known address
